HOMECOMINGS

I’ve cried for years at homecomings

Never mine

Homecomings in books and movies

Coming home from wars or making good

In the big city

Cried with every tear that fell

On pages filled with joyous cries

And hugs

I cry each time I see

That famous picture of World War II

Of the young soldier holding out his arms

To the daughter he had never seen

As she raced to him, her little arms outstretched

And her little face filled with joy

I cry now at the thought

Of having that much love

Of having someone that glad to go home to
