Is It Still Good to Be You

When you wake up in the morning
and stretch, getting ready
for the new day,
is it still good to be you?

And as you brush your hair
100 strokes through silky curls,
thinking of the night before,
is it still good to be you?

Just before you leave you house
and stand before the mirror
turning to and fro to check just
how you clothes hang
and accent your curves here and there,
knowing no one loves you
near as much as you,
is it still good to be you?

And through the day as you move about
flashing your smile and sometimes
that sassy look, that teasing flirtation
that comes with ease,
is it still good to be you?

As the day rolls past
and the evening begins
with you on his arm,
whoever it might be tonight,
maybe dancing, swaying about
your eyes alight with promises to come,
but none you intend to keep,
is it still good to be you?

And tell me,
at the evening’s end
in the darkness as you lay upon your bed
thinking of the day,
maybe remembering the past,
those who lay shattered in your wake,
is it still good to be you?

Stuck listening to all that music again – my drug of choice
Thursday – probably no closer to home
wherever that might be
