Mathematics of Love

How sad it is

That not to take a chance

On love

Because it might hurt

Like it has so many times before

So foolish

For perhaps,

Just perhaps, this time it is real

The big one

The one the moonlight always remembers

The one those long, empty nights

Are so full of

Against all odds and worth all risks

But, no

Listen to the head

Be reasonable

The mind has calculated the odds

In a sane practical manner

It has examined the parameters

Of the past

Listed the pain

And heartbreak exponentially

To the nth power

The numbers were staggering

The figures ran down the page

While the heart softly throbbed
