Who to Tell When the Ear Has Turned Away?

So unexpected and such a joy.
A phone call out of the blue
from a voice never expected to be heard again.
So, the news is trying to burst from within.
Who do I call?
Who do I tell?
With whom do I share the joy?
. . .

. . .

. . .

No one.
There’s no one to tell.
No ear left to fill with how wonderous
this news is to me, for me.
The ear I used to fill
with all of life’s little thrills
and rarities
has turned their head.

No one to tell
but the joy is still bursting forth.
